20,000 California Ballots at Center of Trump Election Dispute Plan
Governor Gavin Newsom alleges the President is moving to the Supreme Court to void specific votes ahead of the US midterm elections.

California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that 20,000 ballots are the target of a new legal challenge filed by President Donald Trump. In a video released to the public, Newsom claimed the President went to the United States Supreme Court just hours before the midterm elections to request the removal of these specific votes. The Governor accused the White House of claiming widespread illegal voting in the state as a justification for the move, calling the excuse a lie.
Newsom said the administration has been preparing this legal strategy for months. He argued that the goal is to label the election stolen if the outcome does not favor the Republican party. The California leader noted that the Department of Justice has issued criminal grand jury subpoenas to local election workers. He described these subpoenas as an attempt to intimidate staff before the voting process concludes.
The Governor addressed potential interferers directly. He stated that anyone who interferes with California voters faces prosecution with a felony charge. He added that those who tamper with ballots will face justice regardless of who issued the order. Newsom pointed out that a presidential pardon cannot remove a person from California state justice. He cited a law signed two months ago that gives state prosecutors new tools to ensure this protection.
Newsom reported that the state passed 13 election protection bills in preparation for the vote. The state sent $40 million to counties to hire additional staff and count ballots faster. An election security task force is currently monitoring for misinformation and threats at polling places. The Governor said the state took the federal administration to court three times in the past week and won all three cases.
Tomorrow, 135 lawyers will be on standby across California. More than 1,000 volunteers will be watching the polls. Newsom thanked election workers for their service and described the threats against them as a disgrace. He urged eligible voters to go to the polls and not let anyone scare them out of their voice.
The midterm elections will determine the makeup of the US House of Representatives and roughly 33 or 34 of the 100 seats in the US Senate. Democrats are expected to win the most seats in this contest. Republicans are projected to take a hit in the number of seats they hold in Congress. The combined House and Senate make up the US Congress.
Former Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar discussed the potential for a disputed result on The Claire Byrne Show. He noted that people should be prepared for the possibility that President Trump might dispute the outcome. Varadkar suggested the President might launch court cases in certain states or allege voter fraud. He referenced the 2020 presidential election loss to Joe Biden and the subsequent march on Congress.
Varadkar argued that the margin of victory is very important. He stated it is much harder to dispute a result if Democrats win states that were not previously considered competitive. He cited Texas, Iowa, and Kansas as examples of states that might surprise observers. He predicted that a Democratic-controlled Congress could make life difficult for the Trump administration for the next two years.
Varadkar observed a change in the mood among Democrats compared to the period when President Biden was elected. He said the current sentiment is to go after the MAGA movement and anyone associated with it. The old Congress remains in session and can vote on issues for the rest of the year. The new Congress is scheduled to come into session in January.
