Obama argues Iran conflict cost Ohioans two trillion dollars
Former president links the war's expense to the state's tight gubernatorial and senatorial races.

Former President Barack Obama accused the current administration of squandering two trillion dollars on an unwanted conflict with Iran. He made the claim on Saturday while campaigning for Democratic candidates in Ohio ahead of the midterm elections.
Speaking to supporters, Obama said the president chose to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for. He linked this decision to a pattern of bad choices during the second term. Obama told the crowd that after two years of chaos and cruelty, voters now have a chance to say enough is enough.
The rally also focused on the heated gubernatorial race between Democrat Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy recently aired an attack ad featuring Donna Arthur, Acton's mother. Arthur disputed Acton's account of a childhood involving homelessness and sexual abuse by her stepfather. She urged Ohioans not to vote for her daughter.
Acton states she has not seen her mother since 1978. Her brother has backed her account of the abuse. The stepfather, who died in 2004, was charged with rape. Obama supported Acton, noting that she has spoken movingly about her painful childhood, including abuse, neglect, and homelessness.
Former Senator Sherrod Brown joined Obama on the stage. Brown is seeking to defeat incumbent Republican Senator Jon Husted. Polls currently show Democrats holding a slight lead in both the governor and Senate races, though results are expected to be close.
